“The Indie Short Film Series Returns on April 15th with National Comedian & Award Winning Director, Alycia Cooper” 

The INDIE short FILM SERIES returns for its 11th installment on Saturday, April 15, 2023 - 7pm at the Vinegar Hill Theatre in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Series features up to 7-8 short films, followed by a filmmaker's panel discussion with selected filmmakers. The event will also provide audience members with the opportunity to award their favorite film with the Audience Choice Award. 

Alycia Cooper, no relation to the founder & curator, will screen her film, Fat Stripper. Alycia is a national comic who has toured the nation for years and have appeared in movies and major network sitcoms. She is scheduled to be at the event to speak on the panel about her film as the writer and director. 

The Series’ film curator, Ty Cooper, opened 2023 with the screening of Sundance Film Festival favorite shorts, Walk of Shame and Pro Pool. These films were acquired after viewing them at the festival in Park City, Utah, and meeting the filmmakers. Other films from Sundance will feature in the upcoming installments of the Indie Short Film Series in Charlottesville. Cooper, is an award winning writer, director and producer. Bringing film opportunities to Virginia is a passion of his and he is determined to enhance Charlottesville's cultural film landscape. "I believe regularly showcasing short films and filmmaking panel discussions can provide the opportunity for enthusiasts or aspiring filmmakers to enter the local film industry” Cooper states. 

Vinegar Hill Theatre continues to serve as the home for the INDIE short FILM SERIES and has since 2019. It is Charlottesville's only true independent movie theater in full support of independent filmmaking. The theater offers a great viewing experience for patrons and visiting filmmakers have walked away very pleased after screening at the Series.
