Zs Southern Kitchen (Zs), the name inspired by the "Hutchinson Ladies," Zalia, Zamaria and Zetta, is a service-disabled veteran-owned small business providing exquisite delights that are soothing to the soul. Shekela or Chef Kela, as many refer to her, is the founder and co-owner along with her husband, co-owner Teren Hutchinson. The title “Chef” for her was earned through respect, dedication, and professional training in the culinary field. Born and raised in the low country of Walterboro, South Carolina, she watched her Grandma Ruth and Aunt Emma master the art of cooking for many years. Together, they are the masterminds behind all ingredients that have been passed down to the younger generation and now introduced in Zs Southern Kitchen. With no formal training, in 2000, she started catering for military retirements, weddings, birthdays and other special events. In 2009, she started 2K Events, LLC where she organized, designed, decorated, and catered many events. She was well known for her services throughout the DMV area for Military and Government events. Although she received certification for food handling/manager with no professional training, she decided to attend Culinary School at Stratford University. Her focus then shifted to her heart’s desire and began cooking more and doing less of the event planning. She began cooking for every event that was presented but needed a platform to do so. She started Zs as a food truck in 2020 as her platform. As the Chef, she strives to maintain a high standard of quality thus requiring each meal to be reviewed by her personally before delivery to our customer. Additionally through our carryout restaurant we service private and corporate events, offer personal chef services and mini chef classes. We put pride and love into every meal from preparation to packaging. Our made to order items enables the delivery of quality products that will have you coming back for more.
